The general rule is that a fact remains on a person's credit history for six years. So the fact of a bankruptcy will disappear six years after an individual is discharged (released) from their bankruptcy.Exceptions to the Rule There are two exceptions to this rule: a) a second or subsequent bankruptcy will stay on a person's history for fourteen years b) aconsumer proposal will be removed three years after it is completed These rules are based on Ontario law, but the two large Credit Bureau's in Canada (Equifax andTransUnion) both follow them nationally.
